What to do
- Welcome students!
Today, we're going to look at synonyms, words that mean the same things as other words.
The story, "The Angry King," has a few unusual words in it. I've underlined a few of them (The words "clad," "flung," "glum," and "intend" should be underlined on the students' copy of the story.)
Let's practice finding synonyms for a word that is a bit difficult.
- (Ask students to find synonyms for the word, "blasted" from the sentence, "The sled blasted past the tunnel.")
- (Ask students to work with a partner to come up with synonyms to the underlined words.)
- (Gather as a group to hear words the students identified.)
