What to do
- Give children a passage and ask the children to read it quietly. Children to highlight any vocabulary they are unsure of.
- Ask children to discuss the text with a partner. What was the theme of the writing? Serious, historical, comical, etc?
- Encourage children to justify their answers by adding notes around the side.
- Children read the passage again to see if they can note down any more facts the second time of reading.
- Give children comprehension sheet and see if they have the answers to any of the questions on the sheet.
