Length: 5 minutes

Materials: Irregular word cards, flashlight

Goal: Given a printed irregular word, the student can say its sound with automaticity (irregword ->"irregword").

Items: All irregular words learned so far.

What to do

Before beginning the game, print Irregular Word Cards and display them on a Word Wall in the classroom.
Turn off all lights in the classroom.
Take a flashlight and swing it on the ceiling of the classroom.
Flashlight, flashlight, what is my word? Right as you say this, shine the flashlight on a word.
Call on a student to read the word. Make sure to call on each student individually, so that all students get a turn.
Play this game for a few minutes each day in between activities.
Observe students. For students who struggle, give them help and make a note in an Activity Log.
