What to do

  1. Before introducing the game, prepare chart paper and markers at the front of the classroom.
  2. Today we are going to think about the letter “d.” Let’s see how many words we can come up with that start with the letter “d.” Before we do that, I am going to make the letter at the top of our page.
  3. Write an upper case and a lower case “d” at the top of the page.
  4. Okay, here we go. Raise your hand if you can think of a word that begins with “Dd.”
  5. Call on students with their hands raised. Write down each word on the chart as students give them to you. Make corrections as necessary. Make sure to call on each student individually.
  6. Great, now we have a list of “Dd” words. I am going to hang it up in the classroom so you can look at it whenever you need to think about words that begin with “Dd.”
  7. Make word charts whenever a new letter sound is learned. Make sure to keep all word charts hanging in the classroom.
  8. Observe students. For students who struggle, give them help and make a note in an Activity Log.
