Items: Student will reinforce word families beginning with the vowel sound a. |
What to do
- Show the student a list with word families beginning with the vowel sound "a" (10 words).
- Have the student write the word on an index card.
- Ask the student to draw a picture on the other side of the index card.
- The student continues with the next word and so on...
- Once all flashcards are created, the student will have to quickly decode all the words within a minute to win the game. You can reduce the time once the student becomes proficient.

About this activity
I have used this home-made activity with my daughter since pre-k. She quickly mastered many sight words and continues to do so. This game is fun and challenging, and it is also a mutli-sensory approach, which is conducive to learning.
