What to do
- Have students sit in a circle. Hand a small red ball and a small green ball to two students.
- Today we are going to play Word Potato. When the music begins, pass the two balls around the circle. When the music stops, the person with the green ball has to read one word (hold up a word recognition word card), and the person with the red ball has to read two words. If you need to sound out a word I show you, please sound it out silently and then say the word aloud quickly. (Model this with a sample word.)
- As you start and stop the music, make sure that every student in the circle has multiple opportunities to read a word card.
